A Mother-Daughter Reunion 24 Years in the Making

Imagine spending nearly a quarter of a century without seeing your loved one. That’s exactly what happened to Carlota Arrieta and her mother, Victoria Fernandez.

But thanks to the incredible work of a nonprofit organization, they’ve finally been reunited.

A Heartwarming Reunion After 24 Years Apart

Arrieta, who is from Guerrero, Mexico, was torn apart from her mother when she was just a child. For 24 long years, they lived separate lives, until they were finally reunited with the help of Hidalgo Sin Fronteras, an Arizona-based nonprofit that specializes in reuniting families.

The Nonprofit Hero Behind the Reunion

Hidalgo Sin Fronteras was founded in 2019 with a mission to help older adults from Mexico and Guatemala obtain 10-year visas, allowing them to reunite with their families in the United States. And they’ve been doing just that, with over 700 families reconnected so far.

A Family’s Joyful Reunion

Enedelia Rolan, Arrieta’s daughter, was overwhelmed with emotion when her mother and grandmother were finally reunited. “We are very grateful and thankful for the team that was able to bring them here,” she said, struggling to find the right words to express their joy. “It’s super special for her, and we are very, very, grateful.”

A Labor of Love

Isamar Moreno, whose mother founded Hidalgo Sin Fronteras, explained that the organization was born out of their own family’s struggles. “We were able to help bring 49 individuals who haven’t seen their kids in 20+ years,” she said. “We were able to help them get a visa and come and travel here to reunite with their kids.”

A Long-Awaited Reunion Worth the Wait

The process of reuniting Arrieta and Fernandez took about two years, but it was worth every moment. Rolan praised the organization for their tireless efforts, saying, “We get to have that special moment with our family member one more time. So, it’s very important that we have a group like this.”

A Reminder of the Power of Family

This heartwarming reunion serves as a reminder of the importance of family and the joy that can be found in reconnecting with loved ones. As Rolan so eloquently put it, “There’s really no words that can explain it, but super special.”

Real-Life Miracles Happen

Stories like this one remind us that miracles can and do happen. Whether it’s a baby reunited with their mom after an earthquake or a couple reuniting with a lost vinyl record, these moments remind us of the power of love and the importance of human connection.
